Learning Cities Compass

Project type

Research on Learning Cities

Date

March 2024

Place

Venice (VE)

Role

Collaboration with Architects Valeria Cherchi, Devid Vidoni, Fabrizio Costantini, Alessia Eustacchi, Alessandro Folesani, and Alberto Ottaviani

The Learning Cities Compass is structured into four parts. The first part presents a theoretical framework based on the reworking of books, papers, and documents.
Specifically, it seeks to define the paradigms governing Learning Cities and Creative Cities, and to provide an overview of the activities driven by NEB1. The second part aims to define a Learning Cities Compass, a compass that can serve as a guide during the planning phase. The Compass' structure is loosely based on the NEB Compass. Key terms have been identified and correlated, accompanied by practical examples and
guiding questions for the individual planning phase.
The third part provides in-depth analysis of several projects located in selected Learning Cities, which, due to their characteristics, have proven to be successful and inspiring. The fourth part offers a reflection on Venice: is, or could it be, a Learning City/Learning Lagoon? This part seeks to offer some insights into the city's current condition and the future possibility of it joining the network.
