San Paolo open air Cinema

Project type

Culture

Date

September 2021

Place

Parma (PR)

The theme addressed is that of the Pavilion, a temporary structure that enhances a specific area of Parma. The Cinema San Paolo is structured around the idea of a circular interior space, open to the sky and surrounded by distribution and service areas. The central space can be used as a conference hall, theater, or open-air cinema, combining the theme of places intended for entertainment and performance in a natural and therefore exceptional context. A circular void is inscribed within the ovoid perimeter.
The pavilion interacts with the existing centuries-old trees in the park. The repetition of slender perimeter pillars creates a rarefied boundary, thus avoiding the use of isolated load-bearing elements. This creates a continuous curtain that fosters a constant visual dialogue between the interior and the surrounding green space. The structure is designed for the warm months of the year and can be dismantled and stored during the colder months.
