Carpi station

Project type

Urban regeneration

Date

July 2020

Place

Carpi (MO)

This architectural and urban regeneration project for Carpi Station is part of a broader urban redevelopment initiative launched with the Carpi Light strategic urban project, which sees the Municipality of Carpi collaborating with UNIPR. The project specifically addresses the train station. The intervention
starts by identifying the site's critical issues, including: the lack of soft mobility routes and a truly accessible connection to the north-south cycle/pedestrian path passing through the station; the limited services available to the community, specifically, to the station's daily users; the presence of abandoned railway shelters adjacent to the station; the inadequate road system in front of the station and the bus terminal system; the lack of a connection (underpass) to the eastern bank, which is not covered by the tracks,
which constitutes an important nature trail in the city; and the incongruity of the urban elevation relative to the volumes of the station block. The project therefore aims to address these critical issues while preserving the existing structures as much as possible.
